Learn A Little More About Lisa
Lisa's Philosophy
Lisa believes our city can improve by making small incremental changes as well as large projects. A good example of this might be the new street signs in our district. They have dressed up our streets and given a sense of community. Next, we can paint the stop sign poles black, so that they match. Low-cost investments that make a big statement. While we are making these small improvements, we are also working on large projects that are mostly state funded. These projects include a gazebo in the Fishermen and Farmers Market and the WHARF project. Westwego has been very fortunate over the years to receive state funding for many projects, thanks to our state representatives!
Lisa's Accomplishments
Lisa works hard in her district to address her constituents’ concerns but is aware that Westwego is only a square mile in size. So, what happens on one side of the expressway, impacts the other side. She believes it is important to be involved in all projects around the city whether large or small and actively tries to participate in them. Here are some of the projects that Lisa has worked on this term:
• Drainage - Lisa is concerned about drainage in her district and works to keep all drainage canals scooped low, cleaned out, and with cut grass. She has worked with the parish to have canal improvements made along the Dugue Canal at both ends of Victory Drive. She also worked with them to close in about 50 feet of open ditch near Victory and LaPalco. Signs – Lisa secured funding to place new, attractive street signs on all corners of her district, except on state highways (LaPalco Blvd and Westbank Expressway.
• Lisa secured two $1,000 grants from Entergy for the Westwego Beautification Commission to help with maintaining many gardens around the city.
• Lisa helped to secure $995,000 from the LA Wildlife and Fisheries for docks to be built at the WHARF. We are currently waiting on the permits to begin.
• Lisa works with JEDCO to help bring business interests to the city. She has helped to keep Westwego a consideration as they bring new projects into the parish.
• Lisa has worked with the parish Community Block Development to receive grants for new sewer lift stations, including the one at Victory Drive and the Westbank Expressway.
• She formed a group known as the Pastors of Westwego. Lisa has reached out to many of the pastors, whose churches are located in Westwego. Her goal is that they coordinate and share their outreach programs and most of all, pray for Westwego and its citizens. Although about a dozen have been invited, a group of 6 Protestant and Catholic pastors are working together to better our community.
